Pictures of the Fall Fishing Festival

Gemma Cleanslate was at the 7Seas Fall Fishing Festival last weekend. While there, she took a number of pictures. So here they are, along with a few from Bixyl Shuftan.

Celeste Cazenove is the builder of the swinging ship

The event was basically lots of fishing, with lots to see.

And there was quite a bit to see.

Contests were going on throughout the event, "people hung out in one sim or another most all day"

 Holocluck Henly in a boat.

Bixyl took a picture of Gemma "hanging around."

She wasn't the only one, though.

The fox also took a spin in an airplane there, which could be launched from a small platform there.

There was lots of fishing fun to be had. The event was officially over after Sunday evening, but the builds remained up until Tuesday.

Fall Fishing Festival

I took a peek at the Fall Fishing Festival area to see how it was coming along. 7Seas Fishing hosts get together for builders and fishers. In case you have not tried fishing in Second Life it is a great sport. There are loads of wonderful fish to catch, and many land owners or renters hold contests daily with even more custom catches to enjoy.

At the FFF, the creators put up little islands and and fill the waters with delightful customs for catching. Then beginning as soon as people can get into the regions two next to each other, they park themselves in a area where catches come from all around. Some fishers bring boats or flying wearables and hover in the air. Some pick a nice island and sit around and talk while they fish. A few park themselves under water and go out to work or shopping in real life. It is inventory overflow time!!! I still have a few things from the fishing in the spring that I have not looked at yet. It is such fun and the customs are admired by all.

Even though you may never have fished in Second Life, it is worth a trip out to the sims just to see the cute builds that will be there for the weekend. The festival will be open from Friday November 14 through Sunday the 16th. However if you can’t make it for exploring, the sims usually stay open through at least Monday and perhaps Tuesday in case you can’t make it over the weekend.

I saw a couple of builds that are almost finished and have the photos here for you. I will take pictures of some of the quaint fishers and prizes over the weekend and post them next week. Land on Grey Nacht’s island and take a tour from there.

A Look Back at Burn2

By Wesley Regenbogen

Real life Burning Man Event
In real life the “Burning Man” festival takes place in Black Rock Desert in Nevada, U.S.A. It is a art and music festival, although participants can choose what to get out of the event. This real life event takes place every year, last time from August 25 th, till September 1st 2014. The “Wicker Man” is burned down at the end of the event.
Burn2 Second Life Event
In Second Life, we have our own version of the festival, called the “Burn2” event. It took place from October 18 th, 2014 and October 28 th, 2014. The Playa, the main place of the Burn2, was built up with many places to visit, too many to list here, though. When you arrive for the first time at Burn2, you need to ring the bell, to be part of the so-called “Burners,” the Second Life residents that are participating in the Burn2 event.
Burners hold to the Ten Principles, more information can be found at this page :
At Burn2, you can wander around and visit many places. There is a statue, the “Burning Man,” which is in the center of the main plaza. It stays put there the whole time of the event. The same as in the real life event,  “The Man” is burned down as well. I was there when they burned down the Burning Man. You can view the pictures here :

The burning is a slow process, but it was beautiful to see it.

It’s quite an experience to see the virtual statue getting burned down ( virtually, of course ).

It must have taken much time to develop the scripts and textures to provide us with such a amazing effect taking place.
In my personal opinion, this is a cool event, it was my first time experiencing it and I must admit, I will be there next year as well. If you haven’t experienced the Burn2 event, you are too late for this year’s. But you can count down to the one next year if you like.
There is a group in Second Life called the “Burning Man 2.0”, which provides you with more information about the festival and also let’s you know when an event is taking place. Besides Burn2, the Burners have a few smaller events at other times during the year.
When the event is over they have a “Leave no trace” practice, which is one of the Ten Principles. The exhibits are left up for a few days for anyone coming late to see. Then everything is taken down, aside from the desert landscape. Not a prim that isn't part of a rock or catus is left behind.
The great thing about this event is that there's a lot to do. You can go to a disco, or just wander around where you want, looking at the exhibits and pondering the meaning of the art.
Having fun is the main principle that you need to keep in mind !
See you all next year at the Burn2 event.

The Burning of the Man 2014

Last Saturday October 25th, the most noted event of the Burn2 festival, the Burning of the Man, took place. The real life event the festival is based on, Burning Man, draws it's roots from the burning of a nine foot wooden man in 1986 in a "radical act of self expression." And the high point of every Burning Man festival involves a huge wooden effigy, most of the most recent ones over a hundred feet high.

Second Life's Burn2 has it's own build of "The Man." Unlike the real life festival, there were two times The Man was burned. 12 Noon Second Life time was the "European" burn, and 8PM SL time, the "American" burn. Despite the labels, some Americans preferred the earlier time.

On my viewer, The Man wasn't completely rezed when looking at it from a distance. Still, it made for an impressive show. And at Noon SL time, it began with several spots on the tall effigy turning alight.

Before long, the head disintegrated, the wood burned up.

And soon after, the body began to fall apart as the support structures were weakened. Note the numbers of people on the minimap.

Marriane McCann and Pygar Bu, the ones who set off the fire stand by as The Man burns.

It wasn't long before the arms were gone, save for the main beams.

Among those there was Torley, or rather his alt was, done up in watermelon pink and green..

Soon the torso collapsed, leaving only the legs.

Pieces were starting to fall some distance away, one landing just feet from me.

With the collapse of the last of the structure about to happen, the Burners are invited to dance in the fire.

Kenny Luckless, a Second Life "Oldbie" was also there.

The Man is down, and the Burners dance among the flames.

Marriane was among those doing the Burner dance.

What's left of "The Man" seen in daylight, with a club nearby. I would find that a piece of burnt wood had made it to the dance floor.

(Click here if the video fails to play)

A "Neo Geo" had filmed the event and put it on Youtube.

And so, another burning of The Man had taken place. The following day would be the Temple Burn, and the end of the festival.

Scenes From The Making Strides Walk

Almost lost in the news between Halloween and Burn2, the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk took place last Sunday on October 26. The event's official hours were from 9AM to 6PM. The event took place on a walkway on two temporary sims next to the American Cancer Society sim, Make Strides 1 and Make Strides 2

Those dropping by walked around on the track, looked at the exhibits, danced at parties held in the center of the event, or just looked around and admired the detail of the scenery.

There were a few shops in which one could get items, the proceeds going to charity, or pick up an occasional freebie item.

The schedule went as follows:
9 to 10AM SLT : T1 Radio
10 to 11AM SLT : Opening Ceremony – 2014 Making Strides Committee

11AM to 12PM SLT : T1 Radio – Survivor & Caregiver Hour (Survivors and caregivers are why we make strides! Help us honor these very special people)
12 to 1PM SLT : Boot It Up Hour (wear your favorite boots as you walk around the Stride’s path) with DJ Gem Sunkiller

1PM to 2PM SLT : International Spirit Hour (Wave your country’s flag as you walk around the Stride’s path) with The Second Life Cheerleading Squad
2PM to 3PM SLT : Hat’s Aplenty Hour (Show off your favorite hat during this hour) with DJ Ben Vee

3PM to 4PM SLT : Let’s Get Hopping Hour (Grab one of our hoppers and hop around the path) with Millcreek Road

4PM to 5PM SLT : Remembrance Ceremony (Remember your loved ones that you have lost to breast cancer during this special hour) With the 2014 Making Strides Committee & T1 Radio
5PM to 7PM SLT : Time Machine Special (We are going back to the 1960’s with DJ Trader1 Whiplash)

This would be one of the last of the Making Strides events this year. On Halloween, the "Romance Your Boo" party took place. The final event, the Awards Gala, takes place on Sunday November 2 from 1 to 4PM at Angel Manor (161/215/29)
